A little over a decade ago, a team of Avant missionaries started a church plant in Argentina. Now it’s a growing church of about 30 adults and 20 kids. They strive to follow God in every aspect of their lives and also have a passion to share the Gospel with their neighbors. I am so excited to be joining the church in their ministry! While I am in Argentina, I will work to strengthen the children’s ministry of the church. This will include equipping current volunteers with more knowledge and methods of teaching, resourcing lesson plans, and coordinating family outreach programs.
Pictured are some of the kids I will be working with in Argentina.
You might be thinking, "Why Argentina? I thought you wanted to go to Honduras?" You may be even thinking, "There are people here in the United States who need God. Why not stay here and minister to Hispanics in the United States?" My only answer to all these questions is that this was God's leading and plan. Anything else I have ever considered has never been affirmed by God.
Initially when God called me to be a missionary, I thought to myself "I would love to go back to Honduras" but I didn't want to put God in a box. I already knew I wanted to serve in Latin America but to narrow it down to one single country seemed selfish. I asked God to open my heart up to other countries and over time, I felt at peace with the idea of working anywhere in Latin America. So when Avant Ministries asked what country I wanted to serve in, the answer was simple "anywhere in Latin America.” This allowed for us to focus more on my passions and the needs of the mission field. Argentina ended up being a great place for me to be able to serve as a missionary, but also where I could learn and grow as an individual.
